If your scalp isn't currently raw or bleeding, you can use it, but follow these rules to protect your skin (and your locs):

• Use it on DRY hair only: Never use a wooden massager while your hair is wet or while you have just applied a refresher/mist. Wood absorbs water, which can lead to mold growth inside the tool. 

• Oil First, Tool Second: Apply your scalp oil first, then use the wooden tool. The oil acts as a "buffer" or lubricant, allowing the wood to move smoothly without tugging on your new growth

• The "Press and Wiggle" Method: Instead of "sliding" the tool across your scalp (which can cause friction and frizz at your roots), place the wooden tines against your scalp (between your locs), press gently, and wiggle it in place. Then lift, move, and repeat.
